Abstract
A study on 4,609 (Boys: 2,563, Girls: 2,046) primary, middle and high school students in an urban area (Won Ju City) was conducted for assessing their physical growth and development, an correlation and equation between body height and weight from April 1 to April, 20, 1978, and the following results were obtained.
1. Physical Growth and Development
a) Maximum growth was seen during the period from 10 to 15 years of age.
b) The maximum annual growth rates were as follows;
Body height: Boys-6.92cm from 15 to 16 years of age
Girls-8. 17cm from 10 to 11
Body weight: Boys-5.7kg from 13 to 14
Girls-4.5kg from 12 to 13
c) The greatest individual differences in growth and development were observed during 11-14 years of age.
d) The standards of growth of rescent urban Korean students show much improved than that of 1967.
2. The correlation coefficients between body height and body weight are indicative of moderately correlated conditions by age and sex as showed in table 3.
3. Highly significant correlations helped establish linear regression equation for body weight from body height by age and sex as showed in table 3.
